Fun Painting Tutorial With The Family

Yesterday was such a cold, rainy day.
We decided to start a fire and follow along with a painting tutorial Damion and I found a little while ago.
It was so much fun.
Even my mom painted one - which came out looking pretty "Van Gogh."
It was so interesting how we all followed the same tutorial but all our paintings looked SO different.
Art is amazing :)

For anyone who would like to follow the video themselves, here is the link:

Warm and cosy by the fire :)

My mom's all done. So proud of her:) It came out beautifully.

When my sister came home from school we made her do one too. Damion and I each did a second one with her.

Rio's finished one. It makes me laugh. It's soooo cute!

My first and second next to each other...still looks like a girl.

No More Mystery

After weeks of patiently waiting, I can finally upload pictures of my very first oil portrait.
I'm pretty proud of it and was so glad to hear that he girl it was for loved it :)
It took just over 40 hours in total, which I thought was a long time; but apparently that's not long for a portrait.

I am available for commissions.
If anyone is interested, e-mail me on:
iamthetipsygypsy@gmail.com

Here are some pictures taken during the process. Sorry about the poor quality but I always paint at night and it's hard to get good pictures at night =/

Urbanlava

Today my sister (Rio) and I painted a "welcome" sign at the offices of a local advertising company: Urbanlava.
Despite the constant threat of rain and pretty strong wind,I think it came out quite well :)

Mystery commission

I started my first ever oil portrait yesterday.
It's a commission for a friend's girlfriend's birthday.
I am BURSTING at the seams to show it off because I am so happy with how it's coming out. I just want to show everyone!
But alas...I cannot until she sees it :(

Here's a picture of me painting it though...haha.

Out of hiding

Well hello there dear followers..if there's anyone left, hehe.
I've been gone for so long; mostly because I don't have a laptop anymore and also because I've been in a bit of a rut.
But I promise to try to post at least two or three times a week from now on.

Lets start with something very recent.
The lady who I've been doing the wedding shoes for (which seems to be on hold because we can't find any good, plain heels anywhere) got new bedding and had some blank canvas so she asked me to come up with something that would match and this is what happened:

This is the reference she sent me

This is about halfway through the process

Custom Wedding Shoes

My newest project:
hand painted, customized wedding shoes

I'm painting them on behalf of Pixel Shoes shop which can be found at 99 Main Road, Walmer. (For those of you who actually live in Port Elizabeth)
So get in contact with the shop if you'd like to order your own.

I say "wedding shoes" but how often do you get to wear wedding shoes?
I think they would be cool for birthdays and special events such as anniversaries too.
And they're completely customized to suit you:)

PS: for those who have seen Friggie Shoes, I know this is their design, I only used it because I wasn't sure if the shoes would work out. This is just a sample shoe. And I won't be selling exact replicas of their designs.

Childs Own Studio

OH
MY
GOSH.
I am so in love with this idea!
This lady,Wendy Tsao, decided to make a soft toy for her 4 year old son based on a drawing that he did.
She then started a business doing this for other children.
I am going to open every box and cupboard in the house until I find some childhood drawings so that I can do this too.
If anyone else would like this for their own children/grandchildren, I'd be happy to do it. I'm really excited to try so please don't hesitate!
I think this would make a nice fathers/mothers/grandparents day gift too.

Here's a little from Wendy herself:
"Child’s Own Studio started with a simple idea: to make a recognizable comfort toy for a 4 year-old boy based on his drawing.  It was an idea that launched my home-based craft business. Since then, I’ve custom made a few hundred soft toys based on children’s drawings, each one as unique as the child who drew it.
Child’s Own Studio celebrates children’s art and their imagination with every handcrafted one-of-a-kind soft toy.
The child’s drawing, a wonderful expression of childhood, is the starting point of the collaborative project. Details and color choices are reproduced as closely as possible so that the stuffed toy that arrives in the mail is immediately recognizable to the child who designed it.  It’s a fun, rewarding process, and kids love seeing their drawings come alive."
